From mountain forest to bottle – the journey of mountain pine oil

The production of mountain pine oil is a combination of traditional craftsmanship, alpine nature, and modern technology. Every step – from harvesting at high altitudes to gentle distillation – requires experience, precision, and respect for nature. This results in a high-quality essential oil that preserves the primal power of the mountains.

Intricate handwork in alpine terrain

As soon as the snow melts in spring, the labor-intensive harvest of the mountain pine begins. Using a sharp axe, the needle-rich branches are cut by hand and tied into heavy bundles weighing around 40 kilograms. Since the plants mostly grow in steep and inaccessible terrain, these bundles must be carried on shoulders to the collection points. In particularly remote regions, the bundles are even transported down to the valley via taut wire ropes – a strenuous yet impressive task that demands the utmost precision and experience.

Gentle distillation for the highest oil quality

At the collection point, the mountain pine branches are shredded and then transported to the company's own distillery, which has been in continuous operation since 1958. There, they are distilled in large stills using the time-tested steam distillation method. After approximately six hours of distillation, the essential oil is extracted from the plant material and separated from the condensate. The oil is then carefully filtered and bottled for sale. The plant residues generated during processing are sustainably reused to heat the stills – a resource-conserving cycle in harmony with nature.
