Description

Queen of the Alps Swiss stone pine oil

The Swiss stone pine – also known as the Queen of the Alps – has stood for calm, strength and renewal for centuries. With Queen of the Alps Swiss stone pine oil, you bring the soothing character of South Tyrol's mountains right into your home. The motto "Restful nights – vital days" perfectly captures what makes this precious essential oil special.

Our Swiss stone pine oil comes from certified organic cultivation and is obtained using the traditional method of gentle steam distillation from the chopped plant parts. The Swiss stone pines grow on the sunny high slopes of the Sarntal valley in South Tyrol, at 1,800 to 2,200 metres above sea level – one of the purest and most powerful natural landscapes in the Alps.

Slow growth in this alpine environment allows the valuable natural compounds to develop fully. The result is a particularly high-quality, intense and rich essential oil. Naturally, our product is 100% pure, free from preservatives, synthetic additives or chemical ingredients – for genuine, unadulterated natural quality.

Ideal for aromatherapy, bedroom diffusers, relaxation rituals, sauna infusions or as part of your routine for rest and wellbeing.

The more sought-after Swiss stone pine becomes, the more it gets adulterated.

Getting Swiss stone pine oil is painstaking work. The trees are protected and grow slowly. And in the end, the wood yields only a little oil. That’s why cheaper pine oil is often mixed in and still sold as Swiss stone pine.

The simplest test: is Pinus cembra the only ingredient on the label? On ours it is. We do every step ourselves, from the tree to the bottle. So we know exactly what’s inside. And then you know too.

WHAT'S NOT IN IT

Pick up a Swiss stone pine oil from the drugstore, turn it over and read the ingredients.

Criterion Pinus Alpium Many “Swiss stone pine” products
Ingredient Only Pinus cembra ❌ Often cut with cheaper pine oil
Alcohol No alcohol ❌ Alcohol (often listed first)
Perfume No added perfume ❌ Perfume or “pine scent”
Purity 100% pure ❌ “Nature-identical” (= made in a lab)
Origin Sarntal valley, South Tyrol, Reinswald, 1,800–2,200 m ❌ Origin: unclear

“Nature-identical” means rebuilt in a lab. And “Swiss stone pine scent” doesn’t mean Swiss stone pine oil. Our label lists just one ingredient: Pinus cembra. That’s all there is, and you can check it for yourself.

At 2,000 metres, the Swiss stone pine grows slowly. You can smell it.

Up there it's cold and the soil gives almost nothing. The Swiss stone pine grows slowly and densely, and the slower it grows, the more concentrated the oil becomes.

Most distil down in the valley, at 850 or 900 metres. We go up the mountain for it and harvest by hand, just as we have for three generations.

The scent you won't want to be without after just one week.

Next to your pillow

One or two drops on a handkerchief next to your pillow.

In the diffuser

Four to six drops, half an hour before going to bed.

In the wardrobe

A few drops on a piece of Swiss stone pine wood. Our grandparents already did it this way.

Note:

We won't tell you what the Swiss stone pine is supposed to be able to do. How it smells, you'll notice for yourself.

You've probably held our oil in your hands before. It just had a different name on it.

The Thaler family from the Sarntal valley in South Tyrol has been devoted to the craft of oil distilling for over 100 years. Even some of Europe's best-known natural cosmetics brands have been filling our oil into their bottles for years. Now you have the chance to buy our unique oil first-hand, directly from us.

Patrick Thaler
My grandfather was already distilling this oil. I grew up with the scent. I won't put my family name on anything that's been diluted.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

How do I use the oil?

The easiest way: a few drops in an aroma lamp or diffuser. In the sauna, add three to five drops to the infusion water, never directly onto the stones. On the skin, always diluted – a few drops in a neutral carrier oil. Further up on this page we show you a few ideas in detail.

Where does the oil come from?

From the Sarntal valley in South Tyrol, more precisely from Reinswald, at 1,800 to 2,200 metres. We harvest there by hand and distil the oil on our own farm. No detour via middlemen.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are the fragrant substances a plant produces itself. You can smell them when you rub a needle between your fingers. The higher and more barren the ground where the mountain pine or Swiss stone pine grows, the more terpenes it contains. They are exactly what makes the scent.

Is it suitable for consumption?

No. Our oil is meant for its scent: in the sauna, in a diffuser or diluted on the skin. Essential oils are highly concentrated, and ours is not intended to be taken internally.

Can I use it around children?

Better not for children under three. Essential oils are strong, especially for little noses. With older children, use sparingly and only in the room, not on the skin. If you are pregnant, talk to your doctor first.

Can I apply the oil directly to my skin?

Only diluted. A few drops in a neutral carrier oil such as almond or jojoba. 100% pure also means: highly concentrated.

How can I tell genuine Swiss stone pine oil?

Look at the label. Does it say “100% pure” and give the botanical name Pinus cembra? And does the producer say exactly where they distil? For us: Sarntal valley, South Tyrol, Reinswald, at 1,800 to 2,200 metres.

Why are you more affordable than the well-known brands?

Because nobody stands in between. No wholesaler, no brand adding its own mark-up. The oil is the same – the path to you is just shorter.

I've never heard of you. Why should I trust you?

Understandable. For decades, we were the business behind the brands. A third-generation family business doesn’t put its name on the line for poor quality.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.6 / 5 from 22 reviews.
